Coach: Rich Renner (1st season). Starters returning O/D: 6/4. 2023: 4-6, 3-5 LSC
A new head coach will roam the sidelines for MSU in 2024 for the first time in 22 years after Bill Maskill retired following a legendary career. But the new head coach isn’t a stranger to the Mustangs. Rich Renner has been on MSU’s coaching staff since 2006 and was the defensive coordinator for the last 16 seasons.
“The biggest adjustment is dealing with the off-field stuff, from equipment to recruiting, paperwork, fundraising, community service, and meals we’ll eat on the road,” Renner said. “On the field, the adjustment has been organizing spring practice, how we want each practice to function, and how long we’ll practice.”
Renner turned the defense over to his friend and former Sul Ross and Texas Southern defensive coordinator, Michael Vite. Renner said MSU is searching to add depth and talent through the portal this summer.
