Tony Joe White knows how to win in a challenging situation. White built Birmingham-Southern into a consistent challenger to win the Southern Athletic Association each year before arriving in Sherman. 

After White's arrival, the Kangaroos underwent a roster turnover, leaving the Roos with an inexperienced lineup in 2023 featuring 12 seniors. White understands the key to building the Roos program involves finding players who fit the university’s academic standards.

While the move to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference seemingly benefits AC, White is more focused on winning the individual matchups, allowing the Kangaroos to win each play and hopefully, eventually resulting in victory. 

“You don’t win the conference before you win the game, and you win the game by winning each play,” White said. “It sounds like coach speak, but it all starts with winning the individual matchups every down.”
