Last Week
1.Texas Longhorns
Record: 0 - 1
Notes: The Horns had the ball at midfield and a chance to tie the game with two minutes left on the road against Ohio State despite Arch Manning's dreadful performance. They'll remain the top-ranked team in Texas in both polls.
Last Week: #1
2.Texas A&M Aggies
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: Marcel Reed's four touchdown performance against UTSA was the highlight. The run defense is a concern. Fix that and the Aggies are SEC contenders.
Last Week: #3
3.Texas Tech Red Raiders
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: The injury to Behren Morton in an otherwise dominant victory in Week 1 is a worry. Texas Tech won't be tested until a Week 4 trip to Utah so he has time to heal.
Last Week: #2
4.SMU Mustangs
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: The Ponies were sloppy in a Week 1 win over East Texas A&M as the offense turned it over three times. SMU hosts Baylor in Week 2.
Last Week: #4
5.TCU Horned Frogs
Record: 0 - 0
Notes: No team in Texas was more impressive in Week 1 than the Horned Frogs in a flawless victory over Bill Belichick in his college football debut.
Last Week: #6
6.Houston Cougars
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: Conner Weigman threw for three touchdowns and the defense shutout SFA in a professional and mature performance to start the season.
Last Week: #7
7.Baylor Bears
Record: 0 - 1
Notes: The Bears only scored 17 points in five red zone trips and allowed 307 rushing yards in a deflating home loss against Auburn on Friday night. A trip to SMU is next.
Last Week: #5
8.North Texas Mean Green
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: North Texas shut out a team for the first time since 2003 and the offense scored over 50 points. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker looks like a star.
Last Week: #9
9.Texas State Bobcats
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: The Bobcats scored 28 of the first 31 points in the second half as they pulled away from Eastern Michigan. Texas State averaged 10.1 yards a carry on 39 attempts.
Last Week: #10
10.UTSA Roadrunners
Record: 0 - 1
Notes: The Roadrunners faded in the Week 1 loss at Texas A&M but the run game impressed and the team looked more disciplined and focused than in 2024.
Last Week: #8
11.Rice Owls
Record: 1 - 0
Notes: Rice pulled the upset against Louisiana despite not scoring in three of four quarters. The offense ran 64 plays, 55 were runs.
Last Week: #12
12.UTEP Miners
Record: 0 - 1
Notes: Malachi Nelson showed some flashes in a road loss to Utah State.
Last Week: #11
13.Sam Houston Bearkats
Record: 0 - 2
Notes: The Bearkats managed just seven points through three quarters and dropped to 0-2 on the season with their second 17-point loss in August.
