Schreiner head football coach Keith Allen has wasted little time assembling his staff. On Friday, the Mountaineers announced that former Klein High School head coach Shane Hallmark will serve as defensive coordinator at Schreiner. Hallmark spent the last 15 years at the helm of the Bearkats, leading the program to an 83-82 overall record and six appearances in the playoffs.

Hallmark has over 30 years of experience as a football coach, a career that began as a student assistant coach at Purdue. Before joining Klein, he led Fort Bend Hightower to a 24-2 record in two seasons and an appearance in the 2009 Class 5A Division I state championship game.

"Beyond his impressive resume, Shane is a man of exceptional character. I had the opportunity to work with and observe Shane at Klein High School for the past four years. He deeply cares about developing people, both as players and as individuals. His passion for football is only matched by his passion for building strong relationships,” Allen said in a statement released by the university. “I'm confident that Shane will not only build a formidable defense at Schreiner but also make a profound impact on the lives of our student-athletes. He and his family will be a tremendous asset to the Kerrville community."

“I’m excited about the opportunity to build something special at Schreiner University. This is a program with a strong vision, set in a supportive and thriving community. I look forward to developing a tough, disciplined defense and recruiting young men who exemplify character and a strong work ethic,” Hallmark said. “My goal is to instill a culture of accountability, effort, and respect. Football is more than just a game—it teaches valuable life lessons about perseverance, teamwork, and leadership. I want our players to leave this program prepared to succeed as athletes, students, and future leaders.”
