Big changes are afoot in Edinburg CISD as multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that ECISD reassigned Edinburg head coach Rene Guzman and Edinburg North head coach Damian Gonzalez on Wednesday.

Guzman led Edinburg High’s program for four seasons, posting a 20-24 overall record while guiding the Bobcats to four playoff appearances. He previously served as the defensive coordinator at Weslaco East and spent a total of 24 seasons coaching in Weslaco, where he was part of the original Weslaco East staff when the school opened in 2000.

Damian Gonzalez spent seven seasons at the helm of Edinburg North, compiling a 28-42 overall record. He led the Cougars to playoff appearances in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. The Cougars’ high-water mark came in 2021 with an 8-3 record, but they slipped to 3-7 in 2024. Gonzalez previously served as an assistant coach at ENHS and was also the school’s head baseball coach.

Edinburg CISD athletic director Oscar Salinas, a former long-time head coach at La Feria, is expected to begin the search for new head coaches at both programs immediately.
