La Porte is trending up in TXHSFB under Kevin Bearnathy, returning key college prospects from a 10-4 squad that won 10 of its last 11 games in 2024.
2028 RB Sean Simon (5-10, 185): Simon is a dynamic athlete with track speed and elite playmaking ability. After dominating at the freshman level, he quickly made an impact on varsity. His first varsity carry? An 80-yard touchdown. With natural lower-body strength, lateral quickness, and breakaway speed, he's a nightmare for defenders—a versatile all-purpose weapon with reliable hands. Texas Tech, Nebraska and Tennessee have already offered.
2028 WR Peyton Smith (6-3, 180): A varsity starter since Day 1 of his freshman year, Smith is a multi-sport athlete (football, basketball, track) with strong leaping ability and length to win 50/50 balls. A long-strider with sticky hands, he thrives on fades, jailbreaks, and screens while excelling as a blocker. His run-after-catch skills improved as he developed confidence through varsity reps. Smith has early offers from Nebraska, Texas Tech and UTSA.
2027 OLB Caden Watson (6-3, 190): A two-sport athlete whose basketball background boosts his agility and upside as a college defender. He slips OTs with active hands, shows burst as a pass-rushing DE and sets the edge well against the run. He excels at getting skinny on inside stunts and quickly pressures QBs from OLB, collecting 15 sacks as a sophomore. His future—DE or rush OLB—depends on his frame. While basketball limits his weight room time, his agility makes him a unique prospect. UNLV has offered.
2027 TE Ryker Reynolds (6-4, 235): Reynolds shows quick footwork in wide-zone schemes, consistently setting the edge with a strong outside step. He has reliable hands and run-after-catch ability on drag routes and over-the-middle plays. As a blocker, he sustains and finishes well, displaying nimbleness when pulling and climbing to the second level. He works effectively with OTs to chip and reach LBs, using violent hands to control defenders and create movement.
2026 OL Jake Hayman (6-4, 320): La Porte's tight tackle in the Wing-T, he flips sides based on formation strength. He combos well with the OG, chipping and climbing to smother LBs. He bends well, fires off the ball with power and uses his hands effectively. Though he plays OT, he projects as an OG in college, bringing a high motor and a nasty finish to his blocks. Hayman was named the 11-5A Offensive Lineman of the Year.
2026 S/OLB Ashton Ruffin (5-9, 185): Ruffin is a playmaker who fuels his team’s defensive success, earning all-state honors after a strong junior season. Though undersized at ILB, he closes downhill quickly and is a physical tackler. His track-groomed speed helps him cover RBs out of the backfield, and he has the versatility to play multiple defensive roles, including safety—a true leader.
2028 QB Josh Wells (6-0, 170): There are exciting rumblings coming out of La Porte about Wells' upside and potential, and he had a strong showing at the Next Level Athlete Open Showcase.
