At 5-foot-3, 150 pounds, Khelvy Jefferson doesn't fit the mold of your prototypical P4 recruit. But don't let his size fool you.

The 2027 West Orange-Stark running back put up massive numbers in 2024, rushing for 1,342 yards and 17 touchdowns while powering the Mustangs to a 9-3 record and a 35-0 rivalry win over Silsbee.

The second-team All-State selection squats an eye-popping 550 pounds, benches 330, and balances his athletic prowess with a 5.1 GPA.

He's built his game on proving doubters wrong.

"Being a smaller guy, I have to put things on tape that shows that I have the physicality to play against big guys and showcase my strength and that I can keep moving forward even through contact," Jefferson said. "My agility is the best part of my game. I can come out of the backfield and catch the ball, run routes, pass block and understand what adjustments I need to make pre-snap."

That relentless mindset earned him a scholarship offer from Texas Tech, delivered by Red Raiders General Manager James Blanchard—a former West Orange-Stark standout.

"That was a special day," Jefferson said. "We were working out on a Sunday when my dad called me over and told me my head coach, Hiawatha Hickman, had Texas Tech on the phone.

"He told me they had seen my tape, wanted to give me a scholarship, and were looking forward to watching my development. I was shook when I heard that. It was a blessing to be able to get that opportunity and to be able to showcase my talent on the next level."

Jefferson’s size may raise questions, but his production, power and work ethic leave no doubt.

"I know I am not the biggest guy, but showing the heart and being able to make a guy miss and being able do whatever I can to help my team win," Jefferson stated when asked what sets his talent apart.
