Jacksonville ISD on Tuesday night named Alvarado defensive coordinator Montey Stevenson as the next head football coach at Jacksonville High School. Coach Stevenson replaces Jason Holman who departed  his alma mater after three difficult seasons and a 4-26 overall record.

Stevenson, a native of Alvarado who played collegiately at the University of North Texas has spent the past three seasons on staff at his alma mater, where he helped the Indians post an impressive 13-1 record in 2024.

Prior to his stint in his hometown, Stevenson had two separate three year stints as an assistant at Copperas Cove, he also spent three seasons on staff at River Oaks Castleberry.

“When Jacksonville opened up, I talked to my head coach (Casey Walraven), and he thought if Jacksonville got the right guy he thought it could be a special place and he encouraged me to throw my name in the hat. I felt like going through the process and meeting the hiring committee it made me feel comfortable and I felt like this could be the one after getting close a few other times. I’m looking forward to hopefully helping rebuild the tradition in Jacksonville, much like we did in Alvarado,” said Stevenson.

Coach Stevenson, who will start full-time in Jacksonville next Monday, says his top priority is building relationships with the athletes, “Tomorrow I’m going to meet with at least some of the kids, we’ve got to start to build relationships, have the athletes understand who I am and what I’m about. I’ve got a lot to do in the next couple of months, but the kids are the top priority,” said the new Jacksonville head coach.
