Fort Bend Hightower defensive coordinator Colonious McNeal has been named the next head coach at Fort Bend Bush, Fort Bend ISD announced on Tuesday.

McNeal takes over under challenging circumstances at Bush after the passing of long-time head coach Allen Aldridge in early September.

“I’m extremely excited to get started," McNeal said. "It’s ironic I was actually born in Denver, so I guess being a Bronco is in my blood. It’s an honor to lead the program at Bush. Coach Aldridge is a legend and always treated me well and I have so much respect for him. We want to move the legacy he built forward, but I also understand I have to be myself and put my own spin on the program. It starts with leading by example and with love."

McNeal has been the defensive coordinator at Hightower for the past four seasons helping lead one of Houston’s most successful programs; the Hurricanes were regional semifinalists in 2021 and 2022 and advanced to the 6A Division II regional final in 2023.

Prior to his stint at Hightower, McNeal spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Rosenberg Terry under current Hightower head coach Cornelius Anthony. Prior to that, he spent three seasons at Richmond George Ranch where he was part of the Longhorns 2015 state championship staff. McNeal also spent time as an assistant coach at Fort Bend Willowridge. His first coaching stint out of college was coaching in the secondary at Rosenberg Terry under former head coach Tim Teykl.

“I am really fortunate to get to learn and develop as a coach under Coach Anthony and his program," McNeal said. "It means everything to me. Coach (Anthony) is my brother. He’s helped me grow and the biggest thing I’ve learned is loving kids and building relationships is most important. Once I get started I need to get in front of the kids and let them know that I love and care for them and establish the foundations of a relationship."
