2027 Gilmer OL Ismael Camara's path to Texas high school football stardom is unique.
The 6-foot-5, 356-pound offensive lineman from Gilmer has yet to play a varsity snap, yet his name is already buzzing across recruiting circles because of his sheer size, power and 7-foot-1 wingspan.
Camara's journey began in Le Mans, France. Just 11 months ago, he arrived in Gilmer, a town that embodies everything outsiders imagine about Texas high school football—Friday night lights, passionate fans, and a program with championship expectations.
Due to transfer rules, he spent last season on the sub-varsity squad, but that hasn't slowed his quick progress.
Camara is already stacking up accolades (and offers).
He earned MVP honors at the Navy All-American Combine, then doubled down with an Offensive Line MVP performance at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 Showcase in Dallas. Colleges are taking note.
SMU, Houston, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UTSA, Arkansas, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are just some of Camara's early offers.
"It is a pretty big deal, sir," Camara said. "Ten months ago, I was in France, and ten months later, I have all this college attention. I work for that. I have been working for that, so I am so thankful."
Camara has wasted no time learning about the programs recruiting him. The Aggies, in particular, have left an impression after a game-day stop.
"Texas A&M is a really great program with a really crazy fan base," Camara said. "I really like it. I have been to the campus twice. Aggieland—it is a crazy program."
Gilmer is a place where football is woven into the fabric of the community. Camara, in a short time, has fully embraced it.
"My goals for the spring are to be the best teammate possible," Camara said. "Be the best guy on the field next year and bring my team with me to win a state championship."
