UTEP defensive coordinator J.J. Clark is expected to leave his post in El Paso to become an assistant in the linebacker room for the Dallas Cowboys, sources confirm to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Clark, who arrived at UTEP with head coach Scotty Walden last offseason, led a Miners unit that was 113th in scoring defense while allowing 32.3 points per game.
Clark isn’t the only coordinator to leave UTEP this offseason. Offensive coordinator Jake Brown stepped down after the 2024 campaign, though Walden is the one who calls plays. The Miners went 3-9 in Walden’s first year in charge. His tenure began with six consecutive losses, but ended with three wins over their last five against CUSA opponents.
