Ever wonder what a Super Bowl-caliber NFL player looked like as a senior in high school? We've compiled all their HUDL highlight tapes to see. Now if they make a game-changing play on Sunday, you can tell your watch party how it reminds you of what they did in the 2016 area round.
Kansas City Chiefs
QB Patrick Mahomes – Whitehouse
Despite a plethora of off-schedule playmaking in his HUDL tape, Patrick Mahomes received three offers out of Whitehouse High because colleges were skeptical his style would translate to Power Five football. Little did they know it actually translates to the second-most playoff wins by a quarterback in NFL history before his 30th birthday.
LB Nick Bolton – Frisco Lone Star
Bolton was a two-time District MVP at Frisco Lone Star playing on the same team as current Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims and Las Vegas Raiders safety Trey Taylor. In the Super Bowl two years ago, Bolton had a 36-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown that helped seal Kansas City's 38-35 victory over the Eagles.
DE Charles Omenihu – Rowlett
Omenihu racked up 23 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and five forced fumbles as a senior at Rowlett before blossoming into the Big 12's Defensive Lineman of the Year at Texas as a senior in 2018. He missed the Super Bowl last year after tearing his ACL in the AFC Championship but has been a key cog for the Chiefs' defensive line since returning in November.
RB Samaje Perine – Pflugerville Hendrickson
This is what Oklahoma's all-time leading rusher and the NCAA record-holder with 427 rushing yards in a single game looked like as a senior in high school. Enjoy.
TE Jared Wiley – Temple
Wiley was a 6'7 quarterback who led Temple to 40.5 points per game before transitioning to tight end in college. There's another tight end in Kansas City that dates Taylor Swift who deservedly grabs all the headlines, but Wiley could be an intriguing option in the future.
TE Baylor Cupp – Brock
Ok, Cupp also isn't the aforementioned future Hall of Fame tight end I mentioned above in Wiley's blurb. He won't play in the Super Bowl while recovering from an injury. While his NFL Hall-of-Fame cadidacy is TBD, he is a Brock High School Hall of Fame lock. He led the Eagles to state championship and state semifinal appearances.
Philadelphia Eagles
QB Jalen Hurts – Channelview
Hurts v Mahomes is the first matchup of TXHSFB quarterbacks in the Super Bowl since... Hurts and Mahomes from two years ago. Jalen starred at Channelview for his father, head coach Averion Hurts, compiling over 3,600 total yards as a senior and earning the No.1 dual-threat quarterback ranking in the Class of 2016 per 247Sports.
LT Lane Johnson – Groveton HS
Now this is a fun one. Six-time Pro Bowl left tackle Lane Johnson was a high school quarterback at Groveton. The 6'6 gunslinger played at Kilgore College as a freshman, then transferred to Oklahoma as a practice squad quarterback before morphing into an All-American left tackle by senior year.
P Braden Mann – Cy-Fair
Mann was the No.2-ranked kicker recruit in the country coming out of Cy-Fair before winning the Ray Guy Award as the nation's best punter at Texas A&M in 2018. Maybe he wasn't as physically imposing in high school as the other guys on this list, but he looked like a future pro nonetheless.
S Tristin McCollum – Galveston Ball
McCollum was a team captain at Galveston Ball but received just two offers, Utah and Sam Houston. The 6'3 safety was a two-time all-Southland Conference selection and has posted 33 tackles this season in Philadelphia.
WR Ainias Smith – Fort Bend Dulles
Watch the first three plays from Smith's HUDL tape - a touchdown pass, a one-handed pick six and a MOSS at wide reciever - and you understand why it has nearly 25,000 views. That versatility was on display in college at Texas A&M when he finished his career as the only SEC receiver to have 2,000 receiving yards and at least 250 rushing, punting and kick return yards.
DT Milton Williams – Crowley
Williams was named District Defensive MVP at Crowley after compiling over 300 career tackles and 22 sacks. Williams has had a career-year at defensive tackle for the Eagles this year, with five sacks in the regular season and six pressures in two playoff games.
WR Danny Gray – Dallas Madison
Gray starred at Dallas Madison with 16 total touchdowns as a junior before enrolling at Blinn Junior College. He later transferred to SMU and became a dynamic playmaker who got selected in the Third Round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. This will be his second Super Bowl appearance as a practice squad member.
DT Gabe Hall – Waller
The 6'6 defensive end was an absolute menace at Waller with 13 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. He's currently on the Eagles' practice squad.
LB Ochuan Mathis – Manor
Mathis wanted his fourth star as a senior in 2017. Now he wants a Super Bowl ring. Mathis played four seasons at TCU, posting 15.5 sacks, before transferring to Nebraska before his final year.
