As first reported by Carl Padilla of the Padilla Poll it appears that the UIL’s smallest eleven-man football program Rocksprings will make the move to six-man football starting with the 2025 football season.

Rocksprings turned in an enrollment number of 65 in the last UIL Realignment, that number puts them nearly 40 students below the cutoff the UIL sets that makes schools eligible to participate in six-man football. The Angoras last had enrollment that put them above the UIL’s cutoff for six-man football in 2008-2009 when they submitted an enrollment number of 122.

Despite spending the last decade and a half with an enrollment that made them eligible for six-man football, Rocksprings has maintained a competitive program. The Angoras since 2010 have made the playoffs a dozen times, advancing to the area playoffs as recently as 2023.

However, the low program numbers have taken their toll as the last few years Rocksprings has scheduled just seven or eight regular season games in an effort to try and ensure they’d have a healthy team to compete in district play. Rocksprings struggled to a 1-7 mark in 2024.

Because this change is happening mid-realignment cycle RHS would have to petition to join a UIL 1A district in football next year, that appears unlikely and it’ll be more likely Rocksprings plays an outlaw schedule in 2025 and will join a district in 2026. Rocksprings’ apparent departure from 14-2A Division II will now leave this district with just six teams going into the 2025 season.
