White Settlement ISD at an emergecy board meeting on Monday morning named Maypearl athletic director/head football coach Marte Amrine the next AD/HFC at Brewer High School in a newly combined position.

WSISD after the departure of Todd Peterman in early 2022 separated the athletic director/head football coach role and Jason Wheeler had served as the Bears head football coach for the past three seasons. The district posted the athletic director position only earlier this month, but in the past two weeks sources had started to indicate Brewer was possibly looking to recombine the positions with this hire.

Multiple sources confirmed WSISD interviewed multiple candidates for the new combined role and landed on Amrine late last week, over the weekend we had learned Coach Amrine had informed Maypearl ISD late Friday that he had resigned his post and would be taking another position pending board approval.

Coach Amrine, a native of Aledo had done an outstanding job leading Maypearl the past two seasons posting a 14-9 overall record, he inherited a difficult situation as 2022 was a tough year for the Panthers. Maypearl in 2023 was one of the state’s most improved defensive units going from allowing 47.8 points per game in 2022 to 23.0 points per game in 2023 and MHS improved from 3-7 to 7-4. Amrine’s squad followed that up in 2024 posting a 7-5 record and advancing to the area playoffs. Four of Maypearl’s five losses in 2024 were by a touchdown or less as well.

Amrine, who prior to taking the Maypearl job served previously as the defensive coordinator at Dripping Springs in the Austin area. He takes over a Brewer squad that posted a 4-6 mark a year ago, but the Bears do have a good group of sophomores and with the right breaks, Brewer could become a playoff contender in 2025.
