Multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that Scott Parr will soon be named head football coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Parr spent the previous three seasons as co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Louisiana Tech, where he led a Bulldog offense that averaged 25.7 points per game during his tenure. During Parr's 26 years coaching football, his offenses have finished among the top 5 in the country seven times and have been among the top 10 passing teams 10 times.
Before arriving in Ruston, Louisiana, Parr was head coach at Navarro, where he led the Bulldogs to a 14-14 record. He was named Southwest Junior College Football Conference Coach of the Year after leading Navarro to a conference championship in 2019. Parr served as offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs from 2015-2017 and returned to lead the program after spending one season with Eastern Illinois, where he led an impressive turnaround. The EIU offense went from the bottom of the nation in scoring and total offense to 25th in scoring and 23rd in total offense in his lone season.
Parr has an extensive history in Texas, having spent time as an offensive quality control coach at Texas Tech, offensive coordinator at West Texas A&M, wide receivers coach at Tarleton, graduate assistant for Baylor, special teams and wide receivers coach with Abilene Christian, and running backs coach at Sam Houston after serving one season as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Hardin-Simmons.
The Parr family name is legendary in the Texas high school football coaching ranks. Scott's father, Steve, spent 31 years as the head coach at Slaton, Plainview, and Amarillo Palo Duro. Scott’s brother, Seth, was the head coach at Amarillo Caprock and Lubbock Coronado before leading Anna to the Class 4A Division I state championship in 2023.
He replaces Michael Salinas, who coached the Javelinas this season while serving as interim athletic director since September. After the season concluded, Salinas was named Director of Athletics, and defensive coordinator Jamison Bisch served as interim head coach during the search.
