Southlake Carroll (14-0) vs Longview (12-2), 2 p.m. Saturday at Dallas’ Ford Stadium:

There will be plenty of green in the building on Saturday as battle-tested Southlake Carroll is back in the state semifinals where it will take on surprising Longview.

Carroll’s offense has reinvented itself late in the year after a rash of injuries to key players, and the Dragons haven’t missed a beat. That included last week's 56-45 win over Denton Guyer. QB Angelo Renda threw for 105 yards and a score and added 161 yards on the ground and a TD. RB Christian Glenn added three rushing touchdowns as well.

Carroll feasted on Guyer’s special teams miscues, recovering a bad snap on a punt at the Guyer six-yard line where the Dragons scored one play later. They picked up another bad snap at the four-yard line and returned it for a TD and also blocked a punt and returned it for a score.

Longview played maybe the perfect game last week as the Lobos absolutely annihilated two-time defending state champion DeSotom 50-14. RB Kelvin Washington led a brutal Longview ground game with 298 yards on the ground and five touchdowns, while QB Johnny Hamilton, III and Buster Mumphrey added a combined 130 yards on the ground.

Longview’s defense did a fantastic job keeping the efficient DeSoto ground game in check as well.

Carroll feasted on Guyer’s mistakes a week ago. If Longview can play a clean game and not give Carroll short fields, the Lobos running game led by Washington should be enough push them through.

However, Longview played subpar games in the first two rounds, so which Longview team shows up Saturday? I’m giving Carroll the slight edge since the Dragons have been the more consistent team in the playoffs.
