Lake Travis (12-1) vs Austin Westlake (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Round Rock’s Reeves Stadium:
For the second time this season we get the best rivalry in Austin as Lake Travis tangles with Westlake in the “Battle of the Lakes.” Westlake took the regular season meeting 28-16 and both teams are coming off dominant wins a week ago in the regional semifinals.
Lake Travis rolled past San Antonio East Central, 52-7, last week as RB Van Hopping ran for four touchdowns and QB Chaston Ditta tossed a pair of touchdown passes.
Westlake was equally dominant as it blew past former district rival Buda Johnson, 52-14. QB Rees Wise ran for two scores and threw for another score, while RB Brandon Clark pitched in two rushing touchdowns for the Chaparrals.
What makes Westlake special and a team that’s capable of winning a state title is the play of their defense, which is among the best in the state led by Duke LB commit Elliott Schaper, who is one of the state’s top defenders. That Westlake defense has been the key in their recent dominance in this series and is the key to another regional title.
