Texas picked up a commitment from Alief Hastings 2025 DE Smith Orogbo (6'4, 220), who picked the 'Horns over Texas Tech in a recruiting battle that came down to the wire.

Orogbo, who collected more than 100 tackles and nine sacks in a spirited junior campaign, gives Steve Sarkisian's squad another high-end edge-rushing presence.

Former Alief Hastings Head Coach Tomas De La Rosa has moved into an administrative role within Alief ISD. Still, he has had the opportunity to coach Orogbo throughout his prep career.

De La Rosa thinks Texas is getting a player with an extremely high upside for development.

"He didn't start playing football until his freshman year of high school," De La Rosa said. "He had to lie to his parents about being in tutorials because they were so against him playing football."

"His skill set is through the roof. We have to pull him off the field in practice just so we can get some reps in.

"His best skill is using his hands, and once he really learns the game coming off the football, he has such a long reach that nobody ever really gets to his body; he is just going to maul people."

De La Rosa explained that Orogbo is "fast, aggressive, and long." His combination of abilities puts him in a separate class.  

"In 23 years of coaching, he is probably the best defensive end I've seen at that level," De La Rosa explained. "He's fast-twitch. He is just a different beast."

Orogbo is rated as the No. 41 prospect in the 2025 DCTF Rising Hot 100, making him a four-star prospect.
