Yoakum 2026 ATH Xzavier Barnett (6'2, 195) has already been rated as a four-star prospect by Dave Campbell's Texas Football, and he quickly passed the eye test at the Texas State 7-on-7 just like he did at the UIL State Track Meet.

A Multi-Threat Athlete

Barnett has been turning heads and making headlines with his stellar performances. He plays both receiver and linebacker in football at the 3A Division I level. It's his prowess as a wide receiver, however, that has colleges lining up. During the Texas State 7-on-7, Barnett showcased his ability to leap over defenders, using his size and agility to dominate the field. "I play receiver and linebacker," Barnett said. "I know how to compete, and I am a dog on the field."

But Barnett's talents aren't strictly confined to the gridiron. Earlier this Spring, he snagged a Gold Medal in the 4x100 relay at the UIL State Track Meet at Austin's Mike A. Myers Stadium, cementing his status as a dual-sport star. His speed on the track translates seamlessly to football.

Early Offers and Major Attention

Barnett has already secured offers from Houston, SMU, Mississippi State, UTSA, and more. And the interest doesn't stop there. Heavyweight programs like Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Louisville, Memphis, Tennessee, TCU, Texas A&M, USC, and Wisconsin have shown interest.

"My first offer was from Houston, and it was amazing for me getting that offer," Barnett said. "I like that they are bringing it on and off the field and that they know how to compete. It seems like a good school to compete at."

Eyes on Texas

Spending time in Austin for the UIL State Track Meet left a significant impression on Barnett. He showcased his track skills and soaked in the atmosphere at the University of Texas. "That's my dream offer right now," he shared. "When I used to come to their games, the vibe over there is what I am looking for; what I feel like I would be comfortable at."

The Road Ahead

Barnett is determined to build off a 5-6 finish in 2023, a season where he earned First-Team All-District honors. He will also have to balance recruiting and focus on finding the right college fit.

"Being competitive and being good on and off the field," Barnett emphasized when asked what he is looking for in a program.
