Lloyd “Chubby” Jones III is a busy man.

The Hitchcock quarterback was the Galveston County Player of the Year in football, a back-to-back state champion in basketball and an area champion in the 4-by-100 meter relay.

But the little free time he has is spent at the Galveston County Fair showing pigs at auction. Whatever profit he and his family make from the animals they show is spent on that summer’s vacation.

“I’ve been showing pigs my whole life," he said. Later on, I showed chickens, lamb and sheep. My dad loves it.”

Showing pigs isn’t the only thing Jones picked up from his father. Three generations of Jones men have gone by “Chubby”. Chubby II coaches on the Hitchcock football staff. Father has developed son into DCTF's fourth-ranked quarterback in the class of 2025. Jones earned District 12-3A Co-Offensive MVP honors as a junior after compiling just under 3,400 total yards and 48 touchdowns. He and wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson lead the Bulldogs this weekend in a repeat bid for the Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament.

Jones committed to Texas Tech in November and cited his strong relationship with senior offensive analyst Kirk Bryant for getting him to Lubbock. But head coach Joey McGuire and offensive coordinator Zach Kittley sealed the deal on his visits.

“Once you get up there, every coach up there - McGuire, Kittley - they’re going to show you the most love in the world,” Jones said.

Now to make sure there's a county fair near campus.
