The first day of the 2024 State 7-on-7 Tournament is in the books — day of hot action, wild weather and big-time playmakers. The Dave Campbell's Texas Football staff was all over Veterans Park in College Station, and picked out five stars from the first day.

Mineral Wells ATH Jaidun Fisher
Fisher was a Second Team All-District selection at defensive back as a sophomore in 2023 and showed why on Thursday. The Rams' shutdown corner intercepted a pass on a pivotal two-point conversion attempt by Beeville. He also made a terrific toe-tap catch in the back of the end zone. I was impressed with his competitiveness. He rarely came off the field despite the heat. Fisher is also an All-District basketball player. — Carter Yates

Kilgore WR/DB Jayden Sanders
Sanders was a menace on both sides of the ball Thursday as Kilgore started out 2-0 before rain halted the first day of action. Sanders made a sensational catch high-pointing a ball over a Graham defender for a touchdown in the Bulldogs second win of the day. He was also a shut down defender breaking up several passes. — Matt Stepp

Glen Rose QB Canyon Evans
The State 7-on-7 Tournament is obviously full of talented signal-callers, but none caught my eye more than Glen Rose's senior quarterback Canyon Evans. Displaying cool demeanor in a tight game with Dumas as well as an arm that pops off the field, you can see why coach Cliff Watkins is excited to have him back. Keep an eye on the Tigers in 2024, thanks in large part to one of 4A's most intriguing passers. — Greg Tepper

Hitchcock QB Lloyd Jones III
It wasn't the best day for the two-time defending DII champion Bulldogs, but Jones' arm remains a main attraction. The Texas Tech commit's ability ot stretch the field deep kept Lubbock Christian at arm's length throughout the course of the game, leading to a critical victory. — Ishmael Johnson

Frisco Panther Creek WR Jalen Lott
Lott is settling in as a featured aspect of the Panther Creek offense. The four-star’s long arms and sure-handedness add another dynamic wrinkle to an already prolific offense that is stacked up with talent. With a high ceiling and an elite track profile, it’s easy to see why’s been offered by 30+ college programs. It looks like he’s in for a big season. — Greg Powers
