Lago Vista 2025 DB Swayde Griffin (6'3, 180), the son of former Texas Longhorns great and NFL cornerback Cedric Griffin, has announced his commitment to Texas Tech. The DCTF three-star chose the Red Raiders over offers from Arizona State and Minnesota.

"I feel like Texas Tech is a great fit for me," Griffin said. "They have a nice track program, and I could possibly do both."

Griffin expressed his admiration for Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire, a former Texas high school football coaching legend, citing McGuire's influence as a significant factor in his decision.

"He is a great guy," Griffin said. "I spent some time with him, and he is a really cool dude from what I have seen."

Griffin is a standout multi-sport athlete at Lago Vista, capturing the gold medal in the 4A 110-meter hurdles at the UIL State Track Meet in May. On the football field, he excels on both sides of the ball, recording 493 rushing yards, 193 receiving yards, 10 total touchdowns, 40 tackles, and two interceptions.

"(He's) one of the most athletic kids in the state," Lago Vista head coach Craten Phillips said.

At the next level, Griffin could play anywhere in the secondary.

"They would like to have me at corner, but they have also talked to me about possibly moving to safety," Griffin explained.

With his versatility and athleticism, Griffin could make a significant impact at Texas Tech, continuing his family's college football (and hopefully) NFL legacy.

What this commitment means for Texas Tech: Griffin's commitment is an eye-opener for Texas Tech. He brings NFL lineage, impressive size, and exceptional athleticism. His versatility in the secondary strengthens the defense, reflecting head coach Joey McGuire's successful strategy of recruiting players who possess multi-sport traits and multi-position versatility. Griffin's pedigree and skill set make him a prospect with an extremely high ceiling.
