Chandler Morris didn't transfer to North Texas to be a backup quarterback. A week after his arrival on campus, Stone Earle has left the program, sources confirmed to DCTF. The departure was first reported by JD Davis of Mean Green Sports.

Earle beat out another transfer named Chandler last fall, touted ULM product Chandler Rogers, and earned a captain's designation. But head coach Eric Morris made a change after an 0–2 start, and Rogers piloted the American Athletic Conference's best offense. At season's end, Earle opted to return to Abilene Christian, where he started his career. Earle reversed course to compete for the North Texas starting job, however, once Rogers transferred to Cal. 

Morris has a stranglehold on QB1 duties, but he missed significant time in each of his past two seasons at TCU with a sprained MCL. Earle was set to serve as a steady veteran presence behind him. Jace Ruder, who participated in a three-way battle with both Earle and Rogers last season, transitioned to linebacker.  Now, the Mean Green will look to state champion quarterback Cash McCollum to develop on a faster timeline.
