How's that old saying go - April showers bring more May showers? An overflowing Grapevine Lake forced the Marcus SQT to abandon Meadowmere Park and split pool play at three different high schools. I attended pool play at Flower Mound Marcus High School, where Frisco Wakeland qualified for the State 7-on-7 tournament in College Station. Lovejoy and Argyle also qualified.

Standout Signal Callers

Name: Colton Nussmeier | School: Flower Mound Marcus | Class: 2027 | Pos: QB | HT: 6'3 | WT: 190

I wrote about Nussmeier's recruitment in the Justin Northwest Prospect Notes, but Saturday was the first time I watched him compete. He's steady as a drum and carries himself like a senior rather than rising sophomore, never getting too high or too low. Most defenses were playing soft coverage on him to prevent the deep ball, and he methodically moved the Marcus offense down the field on underneath routes. He did, however, uncork one in the final game, which was the prettiest pass I saw.

Name: Jeremiah Daoud | School: McKinney | Class: 2026 | Pos: QB | HT: 6'3 | WT: 190

Daoud impressed both me and Matt Stepp when we watched him as a rising sophomore in last year's 7-on-7 circuit. McKinney had a loaded senior class, and they weren't afraid to bark at the young pup if he missed them on an open route. But Daoud took the leadership from the older guys on the chin and kept firing where plenty young guys would crumble, and it made the entire team better in 2023. He split time last year with Godspower Nwawuihe, now at Army, and threw for just under 1,200 yards and 13 TD. 

Daoud's a lefty with a tight spiral, and he appeared more mature physically after this offseason. Look for a potential breakout junior season.

Frisco Wakeland generating buzz 

Name: Ryder Treadway | School: Frisco Wakeland | Class: 2025 | Pos: WR | HT: 6'3 | WT: 190

Treadway broke the school record with 1,156 receiving yards on 73 catches but will have a new quarterback for the first time since he was five years old. Brennan Myer is off to Bryant after setting program records with 9,086 career passing yards and 99 touchdowns. Wakeland players do speak highly of new starter Jayden Maples.

Treadway is a 44-foot triple jumper and basketball player who plays like it on the field, excelling in the jump ball. Toledo and Tulsa are standout schools for him. He speaks highly of Tulsa wide receivers coach Ryan Switzer, who has great credibility with the players after making it to the NFL. He's also in the Top 10% of his graduating class and has Ivy League offers because of it.

A school to monitor - Clemson. Treadway performed well on a visit to their football camp and is starting to talk with the Tigers.

Name: Tristan Lawyer | School: Frisco Wakeland | Class: 2025 | Pos: LB | HT: 6'4 | WT: 225

For months we had a manchild hiding in plain sight, but schools finally found Bigfoot. Lawyer is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds with a 4.6 40-yard dash, 335-pound power clean and 450-pound squat. UTSA offered last Friday, the first Division I in-state team, and Lawyer shouted out linebackers coach Galen Scott. That set off the avalanche this past weekend, with Texas State and Baylor both pulling the trigger.

More Dawgs at Arlington Lamar

Name: DeAnte Gentry | School: Arlington Lamar | Class: 2025 | Pos: ATH | HT: 5'11 | WT: 175

I wrote about Arlington Lamar's dynamic 2027 class, but Gentry is the senior leader generating college buzz of his own. He led the Vikings with 8 rushing touchdowns on just under five yards per carry and caught 19 passses for 208 yards and a score through the air. Gentry, who just added an offer from SFA, is in constant communication with Louisiana Tech and has a good relationship with North Texas offensive coordinator Jordan Davis. Lamar is another program to monitor - Gentry is camping their this week. 

Name: Khamill Pruitt | School: Arlington Lamar | Class: 2026 | Pos: WR | HT: 6'2 | WT: 169

Pruitt announced his arrival with an Arizona offer on May 7 and has performed well on the 7-on-7 circuit. He's a burner - 4.34 40-yard dash, 10.96 100m - who could excel as a junior opposite Trenton Yancey and Gentry. He camped at TCU in early June and Texas Tech is trying to get him out to their camp.
