Gilmer 2024 RB Will Henderson (5'11, 180) is one of the state's most celebrated athletes. He won Offensive MVP honors following a dominant performance in the 4A Division II state title win over Bellville, rushing for 227 yards and a score.

He's also won multiple state championships in track, most notably winning back-to-back state titles in the 4A 100-meter dash (10.28 & 10.40).

"It has been a great year," Henderson said. "It has been an up and down year. We had a lot of tragedy, and a lot of stuff happened, and we overcame it. I would not have been able to do it without my teammates. My teammates helped me get through it and I helped them get through it."

Now, he's reported on his college future, announcing a commitment to UTSA over offers from SFA, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Memphis, and Oklahoma State via social media.

UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor's name is on Gilmer's stadium and that long-standing relationship played an integral role in Henderon's recruitment.

"Just the coaches," Henderson said when asked about the fit at UTSA. "We have a great relationship. They came from Gilmer. They know what family really means."

Henderson rushed for 2,736 yards and 35 touchdowns and caught 36 passes for 430 yards and three scores to help lead the Buckeyes to the 4A Division II state championship, earning THSCA Super Elite honors as a senior in 2023.

Will Henderson gets interviewed following Gilmer's state title win at AT&T Stadium in 2023.
