Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD named Odessa High head coach Dusty Ortiz as the next head football coach at Carrollton Creekview High School on Thursday. 

Ortiz steps in for Tony Castillo, who resigned earlier this month to take over as athletic director/head football coach at Ferris High School.

Ortiz has spent the last three seasons leading the Bronchos, who play in the famed “Little Southwest Conference” out in West Texas. He led OHS to a 5-5 mark in 2023 and the Bronchos first victory over arch-rival Odessa Permian since 2013.

Coach Ortiz, a native of Hart, Texas, has 22 years of experience on the sidelines with stops as an assistant at Keller Central, Conroe Oak Ridge, Keller Timber Creek, Corsicana, Hart, Buda Hays Consolidated, Conroe Caney Creek, Bay City, and Saginaw Chisholm Trail.

“I am thrilled that this opportunity has presented itself to me and my family,” Ortiz said. “Throughout the interview process, it was clear that I wanted to be at Creekview High School and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Creekview is built to win championships and has had a lot of success across several sports. We expect the same for our football program, and I have no doubt we will get there."

He takes over a Creekview program mired in a 21-game losing streak, but Ortiz has experience turning programs around as Odessa High had lost 11 straight games when he was named in March 2021.

Ector County ISD is in a tough spot with a 6A job opening at Odessa High on March 30. It’ll be very interesting to see what direction the district goes with such a late job opening.
