Katy ISD on Monday named Duncanville QB Coach Mike Arogbonlo as the next head football coach at Katy Mayde Creek High School.

Arogbonlo replaces J Jense who earlier this month was promoted to Katy ISD assistant athletic director.

“There’s just great people in Katy ISD," Arogbonlo said. "I’ve worked with the principal at MCHS during my time at Travis, I’ve worked for Coach Carter (Katy ISD athletic director) and Coach Jensen (Katy ISD assistant athletic directory) and I were on the same staff at Mayde Creek, so its great to work with great administrators and like-minded people.  I’ve always viewed Mayde Creek as a potential diamond in the rough. There’s talent on campus and in the program, so I’m excited."

Arogbonlo, a native of Houston and graduate Alief Hastings, played college football at Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin before beginning his coaching career.

Coach Aro, as he’s known to most, began his career coaching running backs at Brazosport and at Katy Mayde Creek where he worked with former MCHS head coach J Jensen; the head coach on that staff was current Katy ISD athletic director Lance Carter. Arogbonlo then moved on to Alief Taylor where he spent one season as the co-offensive coordinator and three seasons as the sole offensive coordinator.  

He then moved to Houston Bellaire as the Cardinals offensive coordinator for two seasons and then he spent four seasons as the offensive coordinator at Fort Bend Travis where he coordinated one of Houston’s most explosive offensive attacks.

Coach Arogbonlo was then named head coach at Fort Bend Austin where he spent four seasons, leading the Bulldogs before stepping down in 2023 to take a job on staff at Duncanville. There, he was part of the Panthers 6A-Division I state title winning coaching staff.

The new Rams head coach will have his first official day on the job June 3, but he plans on being around his team as much as possible during the transition. 

“There’s going to be a lot of back and forth driving between my home in the Dallas area and Mayde Creek," he said. "I plan on being out there Thursday at the SQT at least for a little while. My top priority is getting to know the kids and build relationships, especially the seniors. I want to make this a great year for them. I firmly believe we can hit the ground running and compete for a playoff spot.”
